Bridges Out of Poverty
_____________________________________
Communities engage in building a Bridges Community because people are attracted to
Bridges constructs and because they want to live in sustainable communities. Building a
Bridges Community tends to be organic and messy, not unlike gardening. It’s not linear
or mechanical like building a house. Every community has its own leaders, history,
circumstances, and best practices and will go about building a Bridges Community in its
own way. There are, however, some principles and steps that we’ve learned from other
Bridges Communities that can help guide the work.

Bridges Out of Poverty will be neighborhood, community, city, and region changing for San Juan County and we encourage those who are willing to contact us and participate. Thank you for everyone who attended and participated in the event, and a special thank you to Jodi Pfarr, who bought us the wonderful two day presenation.

The San Juan Safe Communities Initiative is a partnership between public and private entities including: city, county and state governments, prevention experts, treatment providers, social service agencies, business community, the faith community, schools, law enforcement, local judges and the drug court program, health care providers, and concerned citizens.
Many agencies are currently working in San Juan County to reduce substance abuse and criminal activity. We believe that with the nature of the current problems facing the county (especially Methamphetamines and Gangs), we must have a comprehensive approach to solving them. Our premise is that we can accomplish a great deal more if we consolidate our efforts and work together toward achieving our mutual goals.
The San Juan Safe Communities Initiative, Inc. is attempting to do something few communities in this nation have been able to accomplish. Our goal is to draw upon our most valuable resource, our people, to achieve our shared goals. We believe that a comprehensive community-wide approach to solving our comprehensive community-wide problems is the only way we will be able to sustain lasting change. By bringing together committed, dedicated citizens and providing a voice for every segment of the population, maintaining our focus of collaboration and cooperation, and promoting our strategic vision for San Juan County, we will achieve a safe community.

Meth 360
_____________________________________
Meth360 is a free community presentation that is delivered by Dan Darnell, retired Farmington PD and Executive Director of San Juan Safe Communities. The program’s goal is to unite communities in the fight against methamphetamine.
Meth360 is unique because it is tailored to be delivered to groups of community members, e.g. teens, families, the community, non-profits, churches, and civic groups. The individual experiences a “360-degree” view of the meth issue, specifically designed for the group to whom it is presented.

2010 ENLACE New Mexico Legislative Internship
Mission
The ENLACE Los Compañeros program believes
that every student is a valuable member of our
community and has the inherent capacity to reach
his or her goals in life. Often, however, students
from diverse economic and cultural backgrounds
do not have the opportunity to attain their full
potential. The mission of Los Compañeros is to
promote both academic and personal success
among underrepresented students in middle and
high school through a culturally relevant
mentoring program provided by university
students.
Why should I apply for this internship?
The ENLACE New Mexico Legislative Internship program is designed to give students like
you an extraordinary experience at the New Mexico State Capital. This week‐long
internship will unite nine students from throughout our Land of Enchantment to learn and
experience state government in a way that classrooms cannot provide. Not only will you
learn about government at a state level, but you will also learn how to make an impact in
the decision making process. You will be assigned legislation your area of interest where
you will have the opportunity to influence our state leaders. During your week‐long
internship experience you will have the opportunity to meet and shadow government
officials in the executive, judicial and legislative branches.
