Aztec National Night Out (NNO) 2014
National Night Out is a nationwide campaign that celebrates crime prevention activities, police-community partnerships and neighborhood solidarity. According to natw.org (NATW - National Association of Town Watch) the first National Night Out (NNO) took place on Tuesday, August 7th, 1984. On that night 2.5 million Americans participated in 400 different communities across 23 states. Thirty-one years later over 37.8 million people celebrate in 16,124 communities from all fifty states. NNO has expanded to other US territories, cities in Canada and military bases around the world. The National Association of Town Watch has been in the non-profit business since 1981 and is the nations' premiere crime prevention network that works with law enforcement, and civilian leaders to keep crime watch volunteers informed.
The City of Aztec will celebrate National Night Out on Tuesday, July 29 in Minium Park from 5:00 - 7:00 PM. Over 80 venders will participate alongside the Aztec Police Department and Aztec city officials. San Juan Regional Medical Center is providing youth bicycle helmets to accompany the local Wal-Mart's donation of several bicycles that will be given away at the event. Farmington Target has donated other items to assist in the free food and hotdogs that will be available to those in attendance. Target has also donated milk to go with Aztec National Night Out's doughnut eating contest. Doughnuts, plus cops, plus a little good spirited competition, should equal a good time for all.
Twice The Ice, a local business, has donated an ice chest and 1,000 pounds of ice that will go to a lucky winner. A weekend getaway donated by the Aztec Microtel Inn and Suites is also one of the available prizes. Expect plenty of activities for kids, food from local vendors, and good family entertainment.
We will see you there!!
