Mayor's Table: Farmington Indian Center| Episode 155

On this episode of The Mayor’s Table, Farmington Mayor Nate Duckett welcomes Myra Newman, Director of the Farmington Indian Center, for an in-depth conversation highlighting one of Farmington’s most unique and meaningful community assets. As the only municipally operated Indian Center in the United States, the Farmington Indian Center has served the region since 1974 as a welcoming cultural, informational, and gathering place for residents and visitors alike. Newman shares the Center’s history, its role within the City’s Cultural Affairs Division, and the many ways it serves as a trusted resource for public information, voter registration, notary services, and cultural connection.

The conversation also explores the Center’s popular Navajo-style restaurant, special cultural events like the winter Késhjéé’ game and upcoming Mini-Fest, and the Center’s growing role as a community hub. Mayor Duckett and Newman discuss the importance of preserving culture, supporting community partnerships, and creating inclusive spaces where people of all backgrounds can learn, connect, and feel welcome. This episode offers a meaningful look at how culture, history, and public service come together to strengthen community pride and understanding in Farmington.
